Nearby the River Rhine on the southernmost part of the chain of hills, known as the Utrecht Hillridge (Utrechtse Heuvelrug) lays the city of Rhenen. Rhenen is one of the oldest cities in the Province Utrecht. It has already been listed in documents dating from the year 855. Before 1258 Rhenen was entitled with city rights. Since then Rhenen has become a city of almost 19000 inhabitants.
